Product reviewed: Lékué Ice Cube Trays
I love modern luxuries that make our lives easier, like air conditioning, electric hand mixers and dishwashers… until they stop working. That’s exactly what happened to me this past year during the COVID-19 pandemic: The ice maker in my refrigerator stopped working. I quickly realized appliances were a little difficult to get fixed, and I found myself in the market for ice trays, which I never thought would happen.
Lékué Ice Cube Trays to the rescue!
Available in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes, the ice cube trays are made with a clear plastic top to help stop water from spilling out after filling and a colorful rubber bottom mold that is flexible. I received three trays: a small blue tray with cute dolphin shapes, a small red tray with round shapes and one large red industrial tray.
I was pleased with the size of the trays, as they were slim and did not take up a lot of room in my freezer. I tested this before making any ice because I cannot afford to lose precious freezer space. I hand-washed the trays, as they are not recommended to go in the dishwasher, and they were very easy to clean.
When pouring water in the smaller trays, I had to be a little careful because it splashed out easily if I poured too fast. The large tray was a little easier to fill, thanks to its deeper molds and sturdy bottom attachment to keep it level and decrease movement of the rubber mold. I especially like the plastic tops to help prevent spills when placing the trays in the freezer. However, the tops do not fit super snug, so I still needed to be careful not to turn or twist the trays when placing them in the freezer. The next day, all was right with the world — I could return to cooling down my morning hot coffee with an adorable dolphin ice cube. The ice easily popped out of the tray with a simple squeeze or twist.
The Lékué Ice Cube Trays saved the day at my home. Now, I am ready to cool down with fun ice for the summer. If you don’t have an ice maker or are looking to add a little excitement to your beverages, I would recommend getting these ice cube trays for the space saving and ease of use.
