Product reviewed: Urban Trend Fruzen™ Ice Cream Scoop
Growing up, I was never patient enough to search for the ice cream scoop before digging into the carton of frozen dessert. Instead, I grabbed a spoon from our everyday silverware resulting in a drawer full of misshapen spoons — and a few stern looks from my dad.
Once I started “adulting” — having a job, paying bills and buying my own silverware — it was time for me to get a big girl ice cream scoop. Honestly, I didn’t put too much thought into my purchase. I opted for a traditional aluminum scoop and it has served me well over the last several years.
The Urban Trend Fruzen™ Ice Cream Scoop has the reliability of my classic scoop while offering a few modern features. It is designed to cut through the hardest ice cream with its power tip, create the perfect scoop with its curling edge and help you get every little bit of ice cream in the tub with its corner scraper. It promises to make scooping easy and comes in four fun colors: purple, blue, green and classic white. Most importantly, it has a sturdy handle that won’t bend.
My first attempt at using the ice cream scoop confirmed the packaging claims. It easily cut through my vanilla bean ice cream and the straight edges helped navigate around every part of the carton. The shape of the handle fit nicely in my hand and created a smooth scooping experience. Overall, I was satisfied with its performance.
One drawback is that its shape does not make it useful for other cooking functions. Because of the flat edges, you can’t use it to measure out liquid-based batters (to say, make cupcakes or egg muffins) and it does not have a spring handle to function as a cookie batter dropper or melon scoop. However, there’s a lot that can be said for simplicity.
If you’re looking for a sturdy and reliable ice cream scoop without all the fluff, this is the perfect tool for you.
